Part of our premium New Zealand Wool collection of True Bullnose® padded carpet stair treads! An elegant but affordable alternative to a complete professional runner installation. We sell treads individually (per step) so you can order the correct number of treads to match the number of steps you have in your staircase.
We make the treads in our standard sizes of 24″wide, or 27″ wide, 31″ wide and 35″ wide and they fit the standard 10″ Deep stair with a 1″ thick tread. But if you need a custom size, just let us know, we can do that, too!
The style is called Matrix, and it is made by J Mish with 100% New Zealand Wool. J Mish puts it best: “Matrix is a clean, woven-look texture with vertical ribs that alternate with dotted loops to create a tailored, grid-like geometry. Tufted of 100% pure wool, the Matrix color line combines complex neutral shades ranging from pale to deep along side of six light-hearted fashion colors. Neutral colorations include both solid color and two-tone combinations.”
Here is how we do it:
We start with this awesome 100% New Zealand wool carpet, cut it down to the correct tread size, seam the borders, permanently attach our True Bullnose® rigid edge, and then add a soft, non-scratchy padding to the back. (Padding is now recommended by every carpet manufacturer. It improves the comfort, performance and life of the carpet. We use a 100% post-consumer padding and the best part is we include it at no additional cost!)
As shown in the pictures, the True Bullnose® stair tread is permanently attached to a rigid bullnose piece so when installed, it will stay nicely wrapped around your stairs. Other manufacturers use combinations of tape or glue, and hope the treads stay wrapped around the end of the stairs. Not these. True Bullnose® treads have a pressure sensitive material that keeps the tread in place and a strong, rigid bullnose edge that keeps the wrap-around in place.
If you decide to order additional stair treads, please note that we are not able to guarantee that orders placed at different times will be produced from the same dye lot. Due to the nature of textile production, both carpet color and binding color can vary from one dye lot to the next. Typically this variation is slight. We recommend placing a single order for all treads, including custom pieces, to ensure that they will all be produced from the same dye lot.
