Part of our premium wool collection of stair treads!  An elegant but affordable alternative to a complete professional runner installation.

We make the treads in our standard sizes of 24″ wide, 27″ wide, 31″ wide and 35″ wide and they fit the standard 10″ Deep stair with a 1″ thick tread. But if you need a custom size, just let us know, we can do that, too!  We sell our treads individually so you can order the correct number to match your stairs.  We also custom make matching landings and runners with the option of a built in bullnose on one edge at no additional cost… just let us know what you need!

The style is called Black Tie and the color in this listing is called Black Jack. It is made by J Mish with 100% New Zealand Wool. J Mish puts it best: “With a nubby wool texture, reminiscent of a fisherman’s sweater, Blackjack alternates rows of thick loop stripe with textured vertical ribs in a two-color check. Blackjack is part of the Black Collection,  classic yet bold styles based on a variegated stripe theme, each with a unique texture and rhythm.”

Here is how we do it:

We start with this awesome 100% New Zealand Wool carpet, cut it down to the correct tread size, seam the borders, permanently attach our True Bullnose® rigid edge, and then add padding then nonskid to the back.

The standard size is made for a 10″ deep tread 24″ wide, but you can upgrade to 27″ wide, 31″ wide or 35″ wide — or we can make any custom size you may need! As shown in our Shop, the stair tread is permanently attached to a rigid bullnose piece so when installed, it will stay nicely wrapped around your stairs. Other manufacturers use combinations of tape or glue, and hope the tread stays wrapped around the end of your stairs. Not these. True Bullnose® treads have a pressure sensitive material that keeps the tread in place and a strong, rigid bullnose edge that keeps the wrap-around in place.

This listing is for ready to ship True Bullnose® stair treads made with high quality Shaw carpet which is made with durable P.E.T. (Polyester) and intended to last 15 years!

They fit the standard 10″ deep stair with a 1″ thick or less step. To measure your stair depth, go from the back wall to the tip of the bullnose by looking straight down at the tape measure – no need to wrap the tape measure around, because we already added enough carpet for the wraparound.

We purchased 11 stair treads and a custom landing in wheat for our staircase. Diane was very helpful and thorough as we finalized our order. The delivery arrived much quicker than the timeline I received. The product was easy to install and took one person about 20 minutes. These are very well made. They haven’t shifted a bit after a week, and a 90lb German Shepherd Dog takes the stairs multiple times a day. I would absolutely recommend the product to someone looking for high quality and beautiful stair treads.

We got these stair treads for our old dog, to make it easier for her to walk the few steps down into our living room. They were a little more than we expected to spend, but the quality is so good – and they look so good – it was worth it. and she is delighted!!

We are so happy with our new stair treads! They are such an upgrade from the cheap mats you can get at Home Depot or Amazon. Diane sent us several samples so we could see our favorite carpets in our own home (we got our Thanksgiving guests to all weigh in!), so we could make sure it matched our decor. The carpet is super nice quality and wipes clean easily (dogs, I swear they intentionally track mud in as soon as you get new furniture….), and it is so nice to have custom sized treads for our old and out-of-square house. It looks so much more polished having treads and landings that perfectly fit all the odd shapes and dimensions of our 100+ year old staircase. We could not be happier with these – I wish I’d found this company sooner!

These stair treads are absolutely beautiful and quickly changed the look of my narrow steps going upstairs. Being able to custom order depth was amazing and the smell of fresh carpet feels so luxurious. Would 10/10 recommend. Each tread had a sticky backing that really seems like it will hold them in place. 100% professional quality.

 

Good Solution! We received the sample tread quickly, with a small sample of the carpet we were interested in (thank you)! The tread is substantial and well made. It was very easy to remove the plastic from the backing (an apparent issue with similar products available on other larger commercial platforms). These stair treads were a perfect solution to our problem. We just purchased a new home but our dogs (and older family members) were struggling with our beautiful but slippery hard wood stairs. I liked the Stair Tread Product so much that I custom ordered a very large rug and 2 smaller rugs to match. The product seems to be well made and is comfortable to walk and work out on. The rugs came with the same adhesive as the stair treads. Not only does it stay in place well and not ruin the floor when you move it, it is wonderful to vacuum because it doesn’t get sucked up like rugs that move easily. 

The customer service was outstanding. They replied quickly to questions about custom pricing and shipping. This was one of my better online experiences. I will not hesitate to order in the future.

I love how these stair treads turned out! I replaced the carpet on my stairs with vinyl, but needed something to help my dogs get up and down. Lauren was SO helpful throughout my ordering process. She sent me a carpet sample to make sure I liked the color, answered all my questions, and helped me with accurate measurements. My lower and upper stairs were different sizes, and I had a custom landing rug made to match. Installation was very easy. The only real work is measuring to make sure I laid them evenly. My treads were received within a few weeks of ordering. They were easy to install – it took about 20 minutes for 12 treads. They are of good quality and look great.  I bought them so my dog, Sam, would be able to walk down the stairs without sliding and falling; he has no problem now that the treads are in place.

 

This order could not have been more PERFECT.  From the second I began looking at these, I was nervous that they would ruin the appearance of my “hardwood” (pine that I stained and is not hardwood!) steps….It did quite the opposite!! I was looking for stair treads and then discovered bullnose treads. I have cats that go up and down the stairs all day and I needed something that would stay. I found this company and after all the reviews, decided to give them a try.

It is worth every penny! Installation for 12 steps took me about 1/2 hour, including making sure the stairs were clean and dry. I did have to adjust one of them and it was very easy to do. I’ve been up an down multiple times and they don’t move. I will definitely purchase from here again if I decide to change things up.

We finally have our house in order after the renovation and the pups definitely approve of the carpet treads! Us humans love them too! So glad to have a product that not only holds up to the dogs, but also helps them as they age.

Excellent customer service helped with a custom landing in addition to stair treads. This was a nice compromise as I didn’t want full carpeting on our basement stairs but wanted some warmth/safety. Treads are sturdy and holding up nicely after 3 months.

I love these stair treads! I really think they are well worth the price. My dogs have no hesitations on the stairs, and the treads look as good as they function. I’ve experienced no budging/moving at all. They are very well made. Diane was very responsive and helped me through the whole process, and my treads were delivered very quickly.

We recently purchased several True Bullnose Carpet Stair Treads from River Drive Designs, and we couldn’t be happier. The ordering process was wonderful — everyone was friendly and helpful, and calls and emails were returned promptly. We have a very old house and things aren’t perfectly square, so we needed to have a landing tread cut slightly shorter on one side, which presented them with no problems at all. They sent several carpet samples as we were deciding on color and design.

Once we installed the carpet stair treads — wow, are these nice. Beautiful, thick, and soft. And, so far, they are staying put. We highly recommend these treads, and we highly recommend River Drive Designs. They’re a joy to work with.

 

These are amazing we have two large dogs and now I don’t have to worry about them on the stairs. The seller was super friendly even though I messed up my first order and had to have them cancel it so I could do it correctly. I only wish I ordered them sooner as the flimsy stair treads I had were not very effective.

I can’t adequately express how wonderful it was to work with Daniel and his team! We moved into a new house with so many hard tile stairs with sharp edges and I had so many questions and concerns. Like many others, my main reason for purchasing these was to help my elderly dog manage the hardwood stairs. They have been great so far – the sticky material on the back of the treads holds them in place securely. It is a nice bonus that they look great, too!

These are amazing – truly transformative! We have had a series of inexpensive stairs treads and not only do they look like doo-doo, they also don’t last. Lesson learned – spend the money for QUALITY! I was quite nervous about making such a big purchase but I relied on the integrity of previous reviews here and I was not disappointed! My two Shibas have been slipping and sliding up and down our four level townhouse–while we love the look of hardwood, it isn’t always practical when you have four feet to manage! This solves the problem. They are super easy to use and slide right onto the stairs–once they are in place they are secure. No additional adhesive needed. My stairs remain protected, my dogs and I are safer and more comfortable going up and down, and it looks fantastic. Expensive but far more economical than having an installer put in a runner that extends up four levels and it looks fantastic. Absolutely zero regrets with this purchase.

I had been searching for the perfect stair treads everywhere. These are exactly what I wanted. The quality is extremely high with thick, lush, & soft shag; color is beautiful (should hide any wear).

RiverDrive is phenomenal; they found the product (it had been off site after I noted it) & sent it right away. I cannot believe how lush they feel underfoot; it has changed our entire stairway into a beautiful part of the decor. The cost was amazing; the stairs now look complete and they are really easy to vacuum. The bullnose tread fits perfectly. Done in 20 minutes! It looks like a custom job (despite holding in place, each can easily be readjusted).

It has just been a day but what a difference these treads make! The staircase is so QUIET. They have just the right amount of cushiness underfoot and they are definitely secure. My dog used to run pell-mell down the stairs and that always worried me. She took to these immediately and now her descending pace is much slower. I’m grateful for that! These bring warmth to the home and are just perfect. I ordered some just for the bottom of the stairs, but I will order more for the rest of the stairs. They stick but are removable for cleaning.

I wasn’t sure I would like the adhesive backing but I LOVE IT. Rugs don’t move when you walk on them or vacuum. Adhesive does not hurt our new wood floors. These are awesome!!!!

River Drive Designs did a fantastic job on my stair treads! They have some more “glam” design and color options, but these were going in a fishing cabin, and I needed high wearing practicality. We also have two stairs that needed custom treads, and RRD nailed it. They fit beautifully!
